Hey you, welcome!
My name is Sara Bakr and I am a full spectrum birth worker/doula. I support people during life’s various transitions.
As a birth worker I support families in London during pregnancy, birth and postpartum to help you feel empowered and heard during this wonderful transition into parenthood. I had a calling to do this work so here I am!
I am Sudanese, Egyptian and Norwegian and I am currently living in North London. I was born in Cairo and spent most of my childhood between Egypt and Norway. Growing up in a multicultural family and moving every few years taught me not only how to adapt to change but also to embrace it, I love how each place has its own unique characteristics. I speak Norwegian and Egyptian Arabic as well as English. I believe language is a wonderful tool and being able to express yourself in the way that is most comfortable to you is priceless. I strongly believe that everyone should have the right to feel heard.
I have a long history in care work, both professionally as a personal career and assistant, but also in my private life for family members. I am passionate about caring for others and I dream of a world in which care work will become valued in society as we all need it at some point in our lives. In my work as a Doula I support clients both emotionally and physically but the most important part is helping clients find their own voice so they are able to care for themselves in the long run. It is important to find that balance of knowing how to nurture and care for yourself but also knowing when you need to ask for help.
In 2019 I started hearing my calling to birth work, at first it was a silent whisper that slowly grew louder and louder. When I could no longer ignore it I decided to finally train to become a certified Birth & Postnatal Doula. I completed my Doula training with Abuela Doulas in 2020 and have been working as a full spectrum Doula ever since. I see great value in the continuum of care that is why I offer services and support for pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period as well as loss and abortion.
I also support families and individuals through loss; specifically miscarriage and stillbirth. I experienced loss in my personal life for the first time when I was 12 when my mother died of cancer, less than 4 years later my father also lost his battle to cancer. Since then grief has had a major role to play in my life. Life is incredibly fragile, and where there is birth there is often death. The first birth I ever supported in person was a stillbirth, this was an experience that shaped me into the doula I am today.
I am also an abortion doula. I wholeheartedly believe in choice and bodily autonomy. Pregnancy can be a beautiful blessing but it can also be a burden, I believe that we should all have the right to choose what we want to do with our bodies. I believe that abortion is an act of self love. I completed my Abortion Companion training with DOPO in 2022.
I look forward to meeting you, getting to know you and supporting you through life transition,
love Sara xxx
