What is a Doula?

A Doula is someone that supports individuals and families through different stages of life. There are different types of Doulas (birth, postnatal, death, abortion).

Doulas are often trained and usually highly skilled professionals, they will support you along your journey. All Doulas are different and offer different services.

When should I hire a Doula?

You can hire a Birth Doula at any time in your pregnancy, I would say ideally before 30 weeks though to give you enough time to get to know your Doula and to have enough time for your antenatal sessions.

I also recommend hiring a Postnatal Doula while you are still pregnant, this gives you time to interview different doulas and find your match. Putting down a deposit will also help ensure that the postnatal doula you want is available when you need them.

What does a Doula not do?

  • Doulas are not medically trained.

  • Doulas do not diagnose conditions or carry out midwifery tasks such as vaginal examinations.

  • Doulas will not make decisions on your behalf.

  • Doulas do not take the place of your partner - we work together as a team and are there to support partners as well as the birthing person.

How do I book you to be my Doula?

Have a look at the different services and packages that I offer. You do not have to have decided what offering is best for you before reaching out though, that is what the consultation is for. Fill out the contact form and I will be in contact so we can schedule a free virtual consultation. During the consultation we get to know each other and see if we are the right fit. Once you confirm that you would like us to work together I will send over a contract. When the contract is signed and the deposit is paid I am your Doula!

What happens if you cannot attend my birth?

In case of unforeseen events such as illness, family emergencies or two births happening at once I will activate the services of my Back Up Doula.

A Back Up Doula is a Doula I work closely with and that generally aligns with my philosophy, this is to ensure that my clients are in safe hands.

Payment of the Back Up Doula is included in the overall birth package and if I had to activate my Back Up I would be in charge of paying them.
